LaMarr Dewayne Woodley, born November 3, 1984, in Saginaw, Michigan, was a formidable outside linebacker for the Michigan Wolverines and in the National Football League (NFL). Known for his exceptional skills on the field, Woodley made a name for himself during his college years at the University of Michigan, where he earned unanimous All-American honors and won the prestigious Lombardi Award as the best lineman in the country. His dominance on the field was evident as he led the Big Ten conference in sacks, finishing eighth in the nation. Following his successful college career, Woodley was selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the second round of the 2007 NFL Draft.

In his rookie season with the Steelers, Woodley showcased his talent by recording his first sack against Buffalo Bills quarterback J. P. Losman. He continued to impress in his second season, playing a crucial role in the Steelers' victory in Super Bowl XLIII over the Arizona Cardinals. Woodley's impact on the field was undeniable, and he quickly became a key player for the Steelers. In 2009, he was named to his first Pro Bowl after recording 13.5 sacks, 62 tackles, and a touchdown. Woodley's contributions to the team were instrumental in their success, including reaching Super Bowl XLV in the 2010 season.

Woodley played for the Pittsburgh Steelers, Oakland Raiders, and Arizona Cardinals throughout his NFL career. Despite some injuries and setbacks, he remained a force to be reckoned with on the field. Woodley's dedication and skill earned him numerous accolades, including being named the GMC Defensive Player of the Week and being voted as the 63rd best player of the 2011 season by his peers.

Off the field, Woodley has made a significant impact through his philanthropic endeavors. He has provided essential supplies to students in his hometown of Saginaw, and his foundation has donated funds to cover participation fees for student-athletes in the Saginaw City School District. In 2018, Woodley opened the Woodley Leadership Academy, a tuition-free charter school in Saginaw, further demonstrating his commitment to empowering and supporting his community.

 

LaMarr Woodley's journey from a standout college player to a successful NFL linebacker is a testament to his talent, determination, and passion for the game. His impact on and off the field will continue to inspire future generations of football players and community leaders alike.
